The North Wind and the Sun
The north wind and the sun are arguing.
The north wind says proudly, “I’m strong. Look.” The sun answers, “I’m
stronger. Watch this.”
A man walks by. The north wind and the sun
decide to try their powers on the man.
The north wind says, “Watch me! I can blow
his coat off!” The north wind starts to blow hard on the man. He blows harder
and harder. The man feels cold and pulls his coat tight.
After a while, the sun says, “Now it’s my
turn. I can surely get his coat off.” The sun starts to shine warmly on the
man. The man feels hotter and hotter. Finally, he takes off his coat and
continues on his way.
The Goose and the Golden Eggs
A man and his wife have a goose. The goose
lays one golden egg every day. They sell it, so they become rich. They are very
lucky to have this goose, but they are greedy. They want to become rich all at
once.
The man and his wife look at the goose.
The wife says, “The gold must be inside the goose.” The man agrees, “Let’s take
a look!” They kill the goose, but they don’t see any gold inside the goose.
Now the greedy man and his wife cannot
become rich all at once. What is worse? Their goose cannot lay golden eggs for
them anymore.
The Bear and the Travelers
Two men walk in the woods together. A bear
appears in front of them. One of the men quickly climbs up a tree, but the
other man can’t run away in time. He remembers bears don’t eat dead animals, so
he lies down on the ground and plays dead. The bear comes over, sniffs the man
on the ground, and walks away.
After the bear leaves, the man in the tree
climbs down and asks his friend, “Weren’t you scared when the bear was smelling
you?” The man answers, “He wasn’t smelling me! He was telling me, ‘Your friend
is not a good friend! When danger appears, he leaves you behind!’”
